How to eat an elephant

Last month we looked at small changes that can make a big difference.

But what if you are ready to tackle something bigger? How do you go about that without feeling overwhelmed/ not starting/ giving up?

First of all, get really clear about your reasons for doing it. What will happen when you’ve done it? What will you gain? How will that benefit you? And how important is that to you?

If it is both beneficial and important to you, next break it down into all the things you need to do. The only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time!

  • What order do they need to be done in?

  • When do they need to be done by?

  • What support do you need?

  • Who could help you?

Then decide, what is the very first small step you could take?

If you have trouble taking that first step, how about if you viewed it as an experiment? Be curious about how it might turn out, what it might lead to, what you might learn?

Then, once you have taken that first step, consider what your next one might be. And whether you want to take it, or whether, on reflection, you would prefer to start out in a different direction.

Step by step will lead to where you want to be.

Do get in touch if you would like some support to eat your elephant. I would love to hear from you. Feel free to call me on 07708 034395 or to email me at julia@juliabutler.co.uk. I offer an initial no-obligation, no-cost discovery session.
