How do you want to be?

People often ask us what we do, what we want to do, or what we want to achieve.

Sometimes it can be really helpful to pause and ask ourselves how we want to be. We are, after all, human beings, not human doings.

Notice the question is not what do you want to be, but how do you want to be.

How do you want to feel? How do you want to approach things? What impact do you want to have on other people? What frame of mind would you like to be in?

There is a danger sometimes that in chasing our to-do list, and pursuing what we want to achieve, we ignore or don’t notice how we are feeling or behaving and whether that fits in with the person we want to be.

The end of the holiday period is often a good time for taking stock. What are the three key words that describe how you want to be? How would life be if you kept those words in mind as you go about your day?

I would love to hear your thoughts.
